Donna Clements has been the District 8 School Board Representative since winning the seat in 2022.

The Candidates

August 4th Election

Donna Clements

Cory Martin

Our Endorsement

WCS Parent Cory Martin

Cory has been involved in our schools for years and years, and is by all accounts super easy to work with and passionate about the work of the Board. He cares about all kids and teachers in Williamson County and will undoubtedly listen to and work on behalf of WCS families and all residents who care about the continued strength of our school system.

All you really need to do is check out his no fluff breakdown of opponent Donna Clements' record. This is excellent.

In Cory's own words from his campaign website:

"As a Williamson County dad with two daughters in our public schools, every decision this board makes affects my family. I have attended meetings, followed the issues, and talked with parents and educators. I know we can do better, and I understand what is at stake if we do not....I believe parents deserve transparency, teachers deserve support, and students deserve a board that keeps their needs at the center of every decision."

Donna Clements - Moms for Liberty / Current D8 WCSB representative

Endorsed by Moms for Liberty's "Williamson Families" PAC [2022 election]

which she publicly accepted onstage at their Franklin Factory kickoff event

"Williamson Families was launched last year by the local chapter of Moms for Liberty. Headed by MFL chair Robin Steenman, the PAC endorsed candidates who have largely advocated for more parent choice, and against mask mandates, the elementary English language curriculum "Wit & Wisdom," and diversity and inclusion initiatives." - Williamson Herald 03/09/2022

A homeschool and private school parent after pulling kids out of WCS by all reports. During the 2022 Republican candidate forum, Clements was asked, "Can you explain how teaching in a private school for 20 years and placing all your school-age children in homeschool or private school for the past seven years makes you a compelling voice for public school families?" She responded with a somewhat vague answer indicating that they are a "Heinz 57 family when it comes to education...experience will all schooling."

SCHOOL BOARD ACTIONS & VOTES

Clements' actions on the Williamson County School Board have at just about every opportunity furthered the Moms for Liberty platform of undermining teacher expertise, acting as a core voice in overriding K-8 science curriculum recommendations and contributing to the drama over Jason Golden's contract renewal which quickly led to his voluntary resignation days later. Read more below.

Golden's Contract Renewal - June 2026

Clements spoke up in the formal meeting regarding Golden's contract extension and seconded a motion contributing to the drama surrounding what's typically a pretty straightforward annual agenda item, and then abstained in not 1 but 2 votes on the matter - refusing to take a position either way.

Read longtime (Republican) Board member Jay Galbreath's Facebook post criticizing the events that unfolded, including the abstentions saying "What I have a problem with is making the case and then declining to own it."

K-8 science Teacher Recommended Curriculum Rejection - March 2025

Note Clements' attempt to substitute the 100% recommended AP Psychology book with one she "personally reviewed". As many parents know, AP tests are national and student test scores affect college admissions, course placement, and even full course credits which equates to very real savings in both time and money during undergrad.

"Board member Donna Clements attempted to substitute the “Meyers’” book, which was recommended by 100% of teachers and committee members, with Cyngage’s option that she had personally evaluated, but her motion failed with only Clements and Tony Bostic voting in favor."

Board decision called a "punch in the gut" to teachers.

Curriculum Complaint Process - October 2022

When you're fighting alongside Laurie Cardoza-Moore (vocal anti-Muslim far-right activist)  in a Board meeting, you’re not fighting for public schools.

“Donna Clements (District 8) spoke against the resolutions’ changes to the complaint process and proposed an amendment allowing any Williamson County citizen to file a complaint about instructional materials.

“There are some people who may not have a child in the school, but they have a heart in the matter,” she said. “They care deeply about the schools. … We need to be inclusive.”

“In a March debate, Clements said she was against critical race theory, a term that’s become a catch-all phrase used by opponents of any teachings about race and American history.

She was among three Republican candidates endorsed by the local Moms for Liberty chapter, a parent advocacy group known for leading the charge against certain books on race and gender that they claim aren’t age appropriate. Right now, she is the only Republican endorsed by the group who’s leading in the polls.”
